A question from Jaylene: Are your products organic and/or raw, unrefined and cold pressed?
I'm assuming your product isn't organic, as I don't see it stated anywhere but I still wanted to double check. Are your products organic and/or raw, unrefined and cold pressed?
Hi Jaylene, thank you so much for the email and your interest in Tulura. You have great questions and I hope I can help.
Currently, our oils are >78% organic. We are striving to get the formulation to 100% and hope to get there by the end of 2019. We will keep you updated.
While cold pressed cannot be applied to most essential oils (steam distillation process for most of our essential oil ingredients except our mandarin oil, which is cold pressed from the rind); our carrier oils for both Cold Season (Tamanu, Moringa, Rice Bran Oil) and Warm Season (Tamanu, Hemp, Marula) are 100% unrefined and cold pressed.
If you would like to learn more about the distillation process of essential oils, you can watch the video below. It is a beautiful process and has been used for thousands of years before the beginning of aromatherapy as a science. This process ensures the plant debris is absent in the final essential oil while leaving all of the beautiful and healing components of the essential oil present in the plant.
Other ways of extracting essential oils from plant matter are resin extraction (i.e. frankincense, myrrh, benzoin essential oils) or solvent extraction and secondary solvent extraction (we don't like to use solvent extraction because these left over solvents in the final product may be damaging for delicate skin and the essential oil itself).
To give a little insight, many fragrance/perfume companies will use solvent extraction because it leaves a stronger scent in the final formula.
I hope this answers some of your questions, and please don't hesitate to contact me with any others you may have.
